About

Sarah’s work is firmly rooted in design and the delight she derives from creating solutions and forms in thrown stoneware.

Sarah’s work is influenced by organic surface pattern found in hedgerows, leafy canopies and the shorelines of Angus.

Field walking with her partner and their dogs Dougall and Jeffrey, has thrown up shards of domestic pottery that has revealed information about our past daily lives and trade routes from distant regions. Which indicates social and economic connections between different communities. Cultural exchange, interconnectedness and the passage of time have influenced her process and decision to design and make tableware.

She also draws from her South Asian heritage, specifically the rich vibrant hues applied to temple architecture in Tamil Nadu.

Pieces are produced in small batches from stoneware clay that has crushed flecks and spangles wedged into the clay body, creating a unique crystalline speckling across the surface of each piece.

Sarah has developed her own specific rich colour hues in matt, satin and high gloss. The glazes have been trialled and tested to fit and enhance each piece.

The form, function and surface of each piece is designed and developed through sketchbooks and then further refined in the ceramics studio until the final piece is produced in the kiln. Creating a collection of tactile vessels that are a pleasure to use and display.
